The Guardian Angel Prayer

As a young girl, I was taught that each of us is assigned a guardian angel to walk beside us through our lives and we can pray to that angel every day and ask for help, guidance and protection. I have also heard many stories over the years of people experiencing the intervention of angels and have had my own encounter with what I believe was an angel…a story for another time.

I have heard it said that our guardian angels love to help us and can intervene to save our lives if it is not our time to go, but they can do more for us when we explicitly ask for their help and invite them in. I have recently returned to and deepened this practice for myself and thought you might like to try it too.

Each day I say the prayer below and ask for my guardian angel go before me to light the way, guide and protect me, and I assign my angel tasks that I need help with so they can be working with me to make sure I stay safe and in alignment. This is a good one to teach to kiddos to say before bed, as it is easy to remember and can help to calm their fears.

Angel of God, my guardian dear.

To whom God’s love permits me here.

Ever this day be at my side.

To light and guard, to rule and guide.
