Self Discovery with Flower Remedies
The beauty of flower remedies is that they are simple and gentle enough for anyone to use and they address nuanced and seemingly permanent states of being that would otherwise have no remedy. If you are on a journey of self-discovery or committed to being and feeling your best, these vibrational remedies are an invaluable tool to have at your disposal. They empower you to take control of your emotional and energetic well being.
Flower remedies, herbal remedies for balancing emotions and personality traits, were created by medical doctor Edward Bach. Dr. Bach was a British bacteriologist who discovered that by studying his patients through interaction he could determine which bacteria were off in their gut. Patients who tended toward anxiety all had a certain bacteria imbalance, those who tended toward anger had another, etc. He would link his patients’ disease to an event in their life that caused emotional upset. Eventually, he no longer needed lab testing to diagnose his patients and he came to the conclusion that all illness was the result of emotional imbalance.
I was first introduced to flower remedies when I was 25 years old and experiencing a health crisis. My naturopathic doctor recommended Rescue Remedy for me and it immediately calmed and soothed me. Being sick can in an of itself be anxiety producing but being very ill for an extended period of time without a diagnosis had me very out of balance. Dr. Bach was very close to death himself when he began his pursuit to heal using flowers. He had been given 3 months to live in 1917 and proceeded to live another 19 years as he completed his work of discovering the original 38 flower remedies.
There are people who argue that all illness starts with emotional imbalance, in the subtlest part of us. Eventually, if left untreated, that energy will work its way thought our energy and into the physical body. If this is true, then healing the energy would prevent future disease and promote wellness.
Flowers are the ultimate and most subtle expression of a plant. If a plant is experiencing disease it may not flower at all. Or its flowers may show signs of the disease. In herbalism like cures like, which is perhaps why Dr. Bach chose flowers to treat emotional imbalance.
Over the years I have continued to use and study flower essences through The Bach Centre in England and also The Boston School of Herbal Studies. I have made my own for years and I recommend Bach flower remedies to most of my clients to help them continue to support themselves after their sessions with me. I have found them to be an incredibly effective and empowering tool in my own journey and have watched them work wonders for my family, friends and clients over the years.
Some of the wonders I have witnessed include:
Watching a friend with a history of postpartum anxiety and depression have an emotionally balanced postpartum period after the birth of her daughter.
Watching a 40 year old woman who had lacked a sense of purpose and direction her entire life discover and pursue her passion with clear direction within a matter of weeks.
Neutralization of grief and trauma after the loss of one’s mother.
The dissipation of a lifelong fear of public speaking
Forgiveness of lifelong deeply held grudges between family members and resolution of family karma.
Release of destructive and sabotaging relationship habits and behaviors
Joy and pleasure where there was none
Ease in adjusting during times of transition (back to school, new job, move)
Resolution of insomnia
Finding true and lasting love with the ideal partner
Etc.
Flower remedies have helped in ways that I cannot convey, mainly that I feel empowered to manage my emotional well being with these in my toolkit. For anyone who is interested in balancing emotions and challenging personality traits these are a must have.
